In recent weeks, the Committee on Diaconal Ministries has heard from many in the OPC expressing concern for the plight of Christians in Iraq who are being driven from their homes. Reports are that now hundreds of thousands of refugees have headed north into the Kurdish part of Iraq to escape the violence and persecution.

The OPC is not aware of any sister church having a reformed ministry of the Word in this region. Yet, out of the spirit of brotherly love for these fellow believers in desperate circumstances, interested Christians might consider the following ways to participate in bringing relief to those who are suffering for the name of Christ:

• The Nuun Fund - Rev. George Grant, a minister of the PCA, is closely connected with Christians ministering to refugees in Kurdistan through the Classical School of the Medes in Erbil. He reports that they have 7,000 refugees in the school and church buildings.
• Samaritans Purse – "a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world."
• Barnabas Aid – an organization that "supports Christians where they are in a minority and suffer discrimination, oppression, and persecution as a consequence of their faith.”
