Question
May non-ordained men/boys collect the offering during the worship service? By this I mean the physical act passing of the plate/bag.
Answer
Neither the Bible nor the Constitution of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (that is, her Confession of Faith, Catechisms, and Book of Church Order), give any explicit rule as to who is to take up the offering. Therefore, this is a matter left to the elders of the congregation to decide. While an argument might be made that the symbolism of having the deacons (who are the officers who most directly act as stewards of the congregation's financial resources on a day-to-day basis) collect the offering sends an important message, the session of any given congregation might prefer to appoint others to this task for equally valid reasons.
