As a church historian, how will you solve the problems of unbelief in the church today?
This question is indeed a most important one, but Scripture is clear. Unbelief can only be cured by exposure to the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit’s work in the heart of those listening to that Word as it is read and preached.
This is what we are taught by Scripture in Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” And Ephesians 2:8 says that faith is the gift of God. It does not originate from us, and we cannot make it appear in others by our own power.
Therefore, the only thing we can do is to proclaim the Word of God and pray for the Spirit to work in the hearts of the hearers of God’s Word, and those who preach must give their hearers that Word in their sermons.
So keep praying persistently to God to awaken the church to believe what is preached, and pray for those who preach to believe it, too.
You and I can do no more. God must do it.
