Here’s a round-up of the latest Disaster Response news as of August 16, 2021:

Hurricane season 2021 has, unlike Hurricane Season 2020, been largely uneventful for the OPC. However, many in the Bahamas are still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Dorian back in 2019. Because of the global pandemic, their economy has been crippled and there are very few jobs available, making it extremely difficult to rebuild after the devastation that Dorian caused. Our sister denomination, the PCA, has missionaries in the Bahamas that could use your help! They are looking to send skilled workers for a week or more at a time, to teach the nationals the skills needed to rebuild their homes. For more information, visit our site.

As the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic continue to unfold, OPC Disaster Response has been able to disburse funds from the Covid-19 Pandemic Response Fund to suffering brothers and sisters around the world. You can see where the funds are being distributed here.

It’s been a year since Tropical Storm Isaias hit Leonardtown, Maryland, flooding the home of OPC member David Bowles. That restoration project has been slow-going but is moving forward as floors and cabinetry have been installed.

Just this past weekend, the southern portion of Haiti suffered a 7.2 magnitude earthquake killing thousands and injuring many, many more. OPC Disaster Response has received word that our missionary families there are safe and we will update as more information becomes available. Pray for this region, as they are also anticipating flooding with the arrival of Tropical Depression Grace by day’s end.
