December 20 Today in OPC History

On this date in 1977, the 6th printing of Everett C. DeVelde's Covenant Children's Catechumen Course had come off the presses and was being made available for use in Orthodox Presbyterian congregations. Designed as a supplementary to Sunday School and other Bible lessons for covenant children when Mr. DeVelde served as pastor of Covenant OPC, Vineland, New Jersey, the course provided a detailed plan of Bible, Shorter Catechism and hymns memorization and for a training period of sixteen years. DeVelde stated, "The accomplishment of all that this course requires is not thought to be easy, but it most certainly is within the reach of our children who have the support of conscientious, serious-minded, consecrated parents and teachers."
