On November 4, 1966, the Presbytery of the South ordained Luder G. Whitlock, Jr., and installed him as pastor of Sharon OPC in Hialeah, Florida. A native of Florida and a graduate of the University of Florida and Westminster Seminary, Whitlock served three years in Florida, followed by six years at West Hills OPC in Harriman, Tennessee, where he earned a DMin degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School.
In 1975 he joined the faculty at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, in practical theology, transferring his credentials into the Presbyterian Church in America. Three years later he began a 23-year tenure as the second president of RTS. Under his leadership the seminary expanded dramatically and opened campuses in Orlando, Charlotte, Atlanta, and Washington, DC. After leaving RTS in 2001, Whitlock has remained active in theological education, serving as interim president at Erskine and Knox seminaries.
